About the Speaker:
A formal journalist with a Singapore Daily and a qualified lawyer, A/P Ang’s research covers legal and policy issues in the media on such areas as copyright, media self-regulation, and free speech and censorship. He has received numerous fellowships and grants for his research, and a paper derived from his dissertation won a top award. He is on the main board and advisory council of the Internet Content Rating Association. He has also consulted for organizations in Europe and Asia, including local ones.
In 2000, he received a Fulbright award and held a visiting position at Harvard University’s Information Infrastructure Project at the Kennedy School of Government. In 2001, he was a visiting fellow at the Programme in Comparative Media Law and Policy, Oxford University. In 2004, he was appointed by the UN Secretary General to the Working Group on Internet Governance to prepare a report for the 2005 meeting of the World Summit on Information Society. He later helped co-found the Global Internet Governance Academic Network (GigaNet) where he served as inaugural chair.
A/P Ang is currently a faculty member of the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information. He has a law degree from the NUS, a Master’s in communication management from the University of Southern California, and a PhD in mass media from Michigan State University.
